Like short sleeves, I bear arms

"Like short sleeves, I bear arms."

Virtues
: self-confidence, strength, assertiveness

This classic Jay-Z line implies to others that one should not be messed with. When people want to start trouble, they are more likely to pick on or be aggressive with those that they feel are weak; those that exude a ‘soft’ persona or passive behavior. For example in a High School setting, bullies will always try to pick on the weak-looking individuals (nerds, geeks, loners, etc.). However, if one shows what they are ‘working with’ whether it be physical strength/abilities, or lethal weapons, then the probability for anyone trying to mess with you decreases. For many aggressors do not necessarily want to encounter a difficult experience; meaning they do not want to try to attack someone, and risk getting beat the f*ck up … that would just be embarrassing.

Elaborating now, i’m trying to refer this quote in a physical sense; ‘bearing your arms’ muscle strength or lethal weapons, however, bearing your arms could also imply a sort of mental constructs that can be used to repel any aggression. At times if we can mentally outsmart or outwit an adversary, it can do more damage than any physical blow; for mental feats can affect one’s emotions and behaviors, which carry far more ramifications than physical interactions. The mind can be a very powerful tool, and when used appropriately, can be very influential not only one’s self, but onto others.

So ‘bear arms’; whether it be physical or mental – I guess the point is, don’t let people f*ck with you, for if they do, blow them away, mentally or physically.

"Life's got a Fat Ass" - Vlot Case Study

"Life's got a fat ass, and trust me I'm going to f*ck full steam"

Taking from Pharrell's In My Mind (2006) album off of the song "You can do it too". Just some background info, the song was primarily about inspiration, and allowing one to fulfill their self-esteem.

This quote touches on the question whether we are getting what we want out of life, and more importantly, if we are actively seeking to attaining what we want and ignoring any obstacles that may stand in our way. The world may seem dim with all the violence, crime, corruption, greed, and hate which exists, but every cloud has a silver lining. When you think about what we have accomplished in terms of science and technology, and even to education and how far it reaches; mankind has made great strides to make our vast world smaller, and more interconnected. Opportunity may be scarce, but it is out there for those who are willing to put in the work and determination. It is up to the individual whether they will be passive (and hope everything falls into place for them) or to be as active as possible and grab what they want and actively pursue it.

DEVIL'S ADVOCATE:

This quote refers to living life to the fullest, and I was talking in a positive context (attaining education, having fun, learning, etc.), but of course one can live life to the fullest with a negative connotation. Extortion, crime, theft, violence can all be justified by one living life to the max; however their need/wants are twisted.

No matter what the context, I guess what is most important is to live life with no regrets; the worse thing one can ever live with is wondering whether you should have asked that girl out on a date, or wondering what would have happened if you took that course in college, or applying for that job .... living with regret is living life, restrained, passive, and at times submissive.

So f*** life, hard. But just remember how you f*** it. And remember to wrap it up!
